What Are SDVOSB and VOSB Certifications?
SDVOSB (Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business) and VOSB (Veteran-Owned Small Business) are federal certifications that give veteran-owned businesses access to set-aside government contracts. These certifications verify that a business is legitimately owned and controlled by veterans or service-disabled veterans.
The federal government has a goal of awarding at least 3% of all contracting dollars to SDVOSBs each year, creating significant opportunities for certified veteran businesses.

How to Get Certified
The certification process involves submitting documentation proving veteran status, ownership, and control of the business. This includes:
- DD-214 or equivalent discharge documentation
- Business formation documents (articles of incorporation, operating agreements)
- Proof of ownership (stock certificates, partnership agreements)
- Tax returns and financial statements
- For SDVOSB: VA disability rating letter
