Rodney Chipps served in the Army National Guard from 1988 to 1994, and when his country called again he answered, deploying to Iraq with the Guard from 2003 to 2004. He attended Fairmont State College and Marshall University.

Rodney spent thirteen years with the Morgantown Police Department, from 1994 to 2007. He served on patrol and mountain bike patrol, was a member of the department’s Special Response Team, and worked as a detective on the Mon Valley Drug Task Force. The department trusted him to build its people as well: he served as a field training officer responsible for preparing new officers for the street and as an active shooter response instructor.

His service to the community did not stop at the badge. Over five years he coached youth softball, baseball, basketball, and football, and his work on the sidelines spoke for itself: the local junior high later selected him to lead its basketball team as a paid coach. Most recently he volunteers at a local food pantry and at Hazel’s House of Hope in Morgantown.

As Secretary of The Eight Fifty Committee, Rodney keeps the organization’s governance, records, and accountability squared away, and brings a career of uniformed service, instruction, and investigation to the board.
