Hunter Thomas

Advisory Board Member
President, Preston County Commission
Hunter Thomas serves as President of the Preston County Commission, the governing body of the county where The Eight Fifty Committee was founded. First elected at 21 as the youngest commissioner Preston County had ever seated, he was chosen by his fellow commissioners in 2026 as the youngest Commission President in county history.
His priorities on the Commission speak directly to the challenges facing the county’s veterans and families: securing sustainable funding for rural emergency medical services, streamlining the county’s opioid settlement dollars so they reach prevention and recovery work faster, and protecting the character of Preston County while it grows.
As a member of the Advisory Board, Commissioner Thomas gives the organization a direct working relationship with county government in its home county, the hardest-hit county in the service area, and brings a new generation’s energy to a mission that has waited too long: making sure the veterans of Preston County and North Central West Virginia receive what they were promised.
